LATE
HARVEST

Semillon is the grape variety in the basis of the best noble rot wines in the world. At Herdade da Mingorro, it was planted in 2008 on a 2.5 hectare plot of schist soil.

In 2011 we inoculated the Botrytis Cinérea fungus in order to achieve the coveted noble rot, and since then it has developed naturally in this Semillon plot. In the 2021 harvest, we let the grapes ripen until mid-October, carefully picking the berries that had been dehydrated by Botrytis.

The result was an intense, deep and elegant Late Harvest of enormous uniqueness. Each bottle of this wine carries the richness of our land of partridges.

TASTING

It has a beautiful golden colour and an intense, deep aroma with notes of candied orange peel, floral notes and a hint of damp earth from the Botrytis.

The palate is dense and unctuous, complex and elegant, well harmonised by the citrus acidity that balances the sweetness. The finish is very long and persistent.

VINTAGE OF 2021 AT HERDADE DA MINGORRA

The year 2021 is remembered for its balance. A mild winter, with an unexpected late cold days and heavy rain during the end of January and February, led into great water concentration in soils in the beginning of vine’s vegetative cycle. Due to the hot spring, the plants budburst early, but also had great vigor.

A mild summer, with stable temperatures, led to progressive and homogenous grape maturation, conserving a great acidic balance.

It was one of those vears where Nature helo whose work in the vineyards and the winery, and contributed for the great quality 2021’s vintage wines.
